When our house was surrounded by the Station Fire in ‘09, a team of 11 firefighters used our garden hoses to keep the fire from reaching the house. They couldn’t get a truck close enough to use their own hoses. Their efforts saved our house. For all the brave and tireless fighting fires in CA today, we are thankful. #thankfulthursday

Museum field trips are lost on our kids. I love learning new things! I got to chaperone today’s Adonis Adobe Museum trip. After a week like this one, I needed to end on a hopeful note. I pulled in behind this old Plymouth at a gas station and watched this man help his wife putting an earring back in place. Such a simple gesture that said so much. It reminded me of all the big gestures that have come out of the Vegas shooting about people who lost their lives by lying on top of those they loved to protect them. In light of such sadness, I was drawn to this small gesture at a gas station. Without Vegas, I’m not sure I’d have noticed it at all. I hope I can remember to notice these small moments when the big ones aren’t so fresh. I could use the reminders of human decency. #findinggratitude #lovewithaction
